Digitrax SDH164D, SDN144PS, SFX0416 and analog AC
Hi there.

Looking to these sound decoders instruction sheets there is no reference to the
possible use of them with analog and AC.

TL1 does and there is the CV13 that controls that capability, but there is no
reference to it on these ones.

Any one knows if once installed in a lok is it possible to use it also in an
analog layout? Even more, will it work in an AC analog layout?

Thanks for any answer.

regards

Fje,

Mentioned decoders only run on DC analog layouts, not on AC. Start voltage approx. 5V.

Regards,

Ben.

Ben, thanks for your answer....

Let me put an aditional question, if I use them in an AC analog will those decoders be  (KO) or simply they will not work?

If the answer is "DO NOT USE THEM IN AC ANALOG" ( :-(), is there any othe sound decoder of similar cost (50 euros around, not the 100 euros of loksound) that would work in AC Analog without danger?

Thanks again

Javier

Javier,

It will not work and don't try. :) AC direction switchpulse up to 35V will damage the decoder.

Why not try the new Marklin Sound decoder. Cost is approx. ?70 on the internet. It will run on AC analog with sound function.

Gr, Ben.

Hi, Ben

thanks for your answer and advices....

Referenced Digitrax decoders are less than 50 euros "out of the box in my hands" and some of them include sound+motor control. Märklin would be 70 euros plus shipment.... too expensive for what I was looking for and my current planned budget.

On the other hand, direction switchpulse is (in theory) 24V, but, anyway, I'll follow your advice and will not try... I'll wait for having the sound decoder market lowering their prices...  ;)

Thanks again and kind regards.
